New Forest Oct 2014 - Silver Expedition
The second DofE qualifying expedition for silver took place in the New Forest
The second DofE qualifying expedition for silver took place in the New Forest from Thursday 16th October to Saturday 18th October 2014. Thirty students from year 11 took part in conditions that can only be described as variable (one minute rain, next sunshine).
The standard of navigation overall was good as was the Campcraft, though it must be said that many candidates could be a little more accomplished with the use of a compass. Dense woods are very easy to get confused by and a bearing is fairly essential, as a few unscheduled detours proved! As ever though everyone faced up to the challenge and completed the three day trek in good humour.
Many thanks to John Balmer, Steve Monk and Sharon for all their hard work in making it a great success.
