The GCSE Art and Photography Exhibition returns to Gordon’s tonight in a glorious celebration of the artistic talents of the students. This marks the first year since the start of the pandemic that the exam component of the GCSE has been delivered and the ten hour exam completed. The title set is ‘Lock’. Also among the exhibited work are coursework components. The themes for the art students are ‘Surfaces’ and ‘Out of Place’. Photography students studied ‘Altered Nature’ and ‘Abstraction’. Well worth a visit tonight. The exhibition is being held in the gym from 5.30pm to 7.30pm.
A chance to demonstrate the skills learned through being in the school’s tri-service Combined Cadet Force (CCF) for students in Year 10 at their Biennial Inspection. Commander Anthony Pimm from the Royal Navy carried out the inspection, which started off with a Parade before he toured the school watching the cadets in action. The Royal Naval cadets showed him how they assemble (and take apart!) a field gun. Army cadets showcased shooting in the school’s indoor range and cooking in the field and the RAF demonstrated the school’s flight simulators. Also on the day’s itinerary were command tasks and patrolling skills/field craft. Thank you Commander Pimm!
Two golds, a silver, a bronze and final places for all seven crews as Gordon’s rowing team returned Dorney Lake for the Ball Cup Regatta on Sunday. In the OJ14 4X+, it was gold for Leo, Charlie, Oliver, Robbie and Toby with Matthew in the J13 single achieving silver. Ben and Tom were presented with gold in the OJ15 2X and Jess, Izzy, Matilda, Ella and Ariana in the WJ14 4X+ ended with a bronze. A fantastic day for Gordon’s rowers!
What better way to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III than a Coronation Colour Run and what could be more British than a sudden hailstorm on a glorious sunny day? But the rain wasn’t going to deter the students, who kept on running, with just one aim – to get as much paint on a crisp, white T-shirt as possible! The Front Field was a sea of red, white and blue as students raced around the athletics track wearing Union Flag sunglasses and waving flags in what was the ultimate in messy, colourful and fun.
Their ‘Last Dance’ at The Stoop last night ended in celebrations as our Year 13 rugby boys stormed to a 52-10 victory against Emanuel School. Some of the team, playing their last game together on the hallowed Harlequins turf, have turned out for Gordon’s for the past seven years. Others joined in the Sixth Form on the Harlequins/Gordon’s Partnership Programme. All have bled green. Staff and students from Gordon’s turned out to support them in their last game, which proved thrilling to the end.
Winners of the Surrey Tennis Festival, the U18 double partners Emma and Genna! The dynamic duo won matches against KCS, St George’s College, St Theresa’s, Caterham and Alleyns before beating Reigate Grammar School in the final.
The smiles say it all - a silver medal at a national competition for Gordon’s rowers. James Gibson and James Clarke, rowing in the Junior Sculling Regatta at Dorney Lake, qualified in the J17 2x with a third place but stormed through to second place in the final, bringing home Gordon’s first ever silver medal in a national competition. Congratulations both!
Coronation mania sweeping through the school with the Dining Hall awash in red, white and blue! As well as a Coronation lunch planned for Friday, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 and Sixth Form students can take part in a Coronation Colour Run. £10 to take part with proceeds to the Camelthorn Foundation. Tickets here.
They have bled green for the school, now our Year 13 First XV team will play in their final game as they take on Emanuel School at The Stoop on Thursday 4th May. All welcome to the game. Please click here for further information.
For the second year running, British National Champion 12 year old Marley O’Toole has been picked for both the GB Boat and Cable Wakeboarding Team for 2023. He is one of only two riders who have been selected for both GB Teams - an amazing achievement.
Soon he will compete at both the World and European Championships for both disciplines.
Last year competing in the Under 15 category Marley placed ninth in the World Championships and sixth in the European Championships.
Wishing him all the best as he attends the official squad practices and national as well as international events.
She did it! PE Teacher Emily King completed an epic run yesterday in the TCS London Marathon, in just four hours and two minutes. Mrs King signed up for the gruelling 26 mile run in memory of former Gordon's Director of Sport and friend, Steve Monk who also served in the Army PT Corps. Crowning her fantastic run was the news that she had also raised £6,000 for ABF The Soldiers' Charity through generous donations by students, parents, staff and friends of Steve Monk. After the run, Mrs King said: “I can’t thank everyone enough for all their support and generous donations to The ABF. It was an awesome day, tough but an incredible and unforgettable experience and the support all the way round was amazing! I was proud to run in Steve’s memory and I know he was with me every step of the way”. Donations can still be made to Mrs King's Justgiving page here.
