The Gordon's School Rugby programme is fast-developing.
In October 2020 Gordon's announced the partnership with Harlequins Rugby Football Club to provide a pathway for promising rugby players. The initiative enables rugby players aged between 16 and 18 years old to train in an environment similar to that of a professional club, whilst receiving a first class education.
Since the partnership began, contracts have been awarded to Caleb Ashworth, Theo Currie, Tom Golder, Guy Rogers and most recently Ollie Streeter. Four of these have gone on to represent their country and age group level, most recently Ollie Streeter who was called up to the England U20 squad.
The School supports players involved in the Harlequins Developing Player Programme (DPP), Surrey and Hampshire county squads, and Surrey Development Squads. Gordon's School have reached the U18 NatWest Bowl Quarter-Finals.
Gordon's School focuses upon the development of the core skills of all students. This allows players to play in any position on the pitch and thus produces complete rugby players.
The School competes at local, regional, and national-level competitions, as well as a busy yet competitive domestic fixture list. The School hosts a District 12-a-side tournament across all age groups.
Each season the boys' Houses compete in the annual Inter-House Rugby tournament, which proves to be hugely popular. Each season 11 teams regularly play fixtures for the School, ranging from U18A through to U12C.
Gordon’s School Rugby coaches are all experienced and provide a player-centred coaching environment that allows discovery of core skills through competitive conditioned games and enjoyable problem-solving practises.
The School runs a successful Student Referee programme and a developing Student Coach programme where the students are given the unique opportunity to qualify as referees and coaches and then referee and coach teams within the School.
The players have regular access to a strength and conditioning coach, a sports psychologist, a nutritionist, a physiotherapist, and video analysis. Gordon's School Rugby toured South Africa in 2019 and annually tour Portugal for the Junior Sevens Tournament.
Events
Annually Gordon's competes in the Daily Mail Trophy, Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens and the national state boarding school championships.
