Beyond the Classroom

The curriculum model at Gordon’s School comprises a strong academic focus at its core and several layers of opportunities around this for students to extend themselves beyond the pure academic provision. This is achieved through the +1 Supplementary options, the Expansive Curriculum and co-curricular opportunities. Our focus on volunteering and leadership adds further dimension to our provision beyond the classroom. Our tutor programme, with its focus on Cultural Capital, educates students in important matters of the world and further sharpens their skill sets in order to prepare them for their next steps.

Expansive Curriculum

The Expansive Curriculum is a non-examined curriculum and a vehicle for personal development. It is split into Liberal Arts in Year 13 and Open Study in Year 12.

Liberal Arts in Year 13 is a programme which extends the students’ ability to think critically, to analyse information and construct effective arguments comprising of modules such as Politics, Critical Thinking and Ethics.

Open Study, delivered in Year 12, focusses on enhancing and developing students' transferable skills and ability to self-assess. This programme is research-led and explores personality types and habits of the most successful people in the world. Students also develop presentation skills and undertake a series of self-assessments to identify their own strengths and weaknesses.

Co-Curricular Programme

The Co-Curricular Programme for all Sixth Form students, is an important element of the personal development journey at Gordon's School. Students should choose four Period 7 activities which can come under various umbrellas such as:  team sports or academic pursuits eg Young Enterprise, Debating or Model United Nations to polish an already impressive portfolio of subjects and skills.  This layered curriculum model extends and broadens the students’ portfolio, making them more skilled, prepared for life and more competitive when it comes to university applications and employment. Leadership forms a core part of the Gordon's Sixth Form journey. Students are encouraged to take responsibility and develop themselves by joining the Sixth Form Committee, the various student councils, by applying for leadership positions such as Prefects and Head Boy/Girl, or shouldering a position of responsibility within their House.

Sixth Form students are also offered the opportunity to undertake nationally recognised leadership qualifications in the form of ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management).

Sixth Form students also have a lot of fun and engage in many enjoyable yet competitive activities. Here is the most recent Dance Off.
